EVS

EUROPEAN VOLUNTARY SERVICE

EVS is a project that enables young people to become volunteers in a foreign country for a period of 2 to 12 months. It offers an opportunity to work and live abroad, experience a new culture, gather useful life and professional experiences and develops the sensibility for solidarity and understanding of diversities.
EVS project is a result of cooperation of sending organization, hosting organization, a national agency and a volunteer. Both organizations are responsible for appropriate preparation of the volunteer and have to provide support in the whole time of the project.
EVS volunteer can become anyone aged between 18 and 30 years. Volunteers can participate in variety of activities: ecology, art and culture, activities with children, young and elderly persons, culture and historic heritage, sports and other activities to the benefit of the society.

HOW CAN YOU PARTICIPATE?
1. Sending organization and the volunteer look for a hosting organization in the database of organizations which are eligible for EVS project.
2. A volunteer writes a motivation letter in which he or she presents him or herself and which is sent to the hosting organization
3. Volunteer, sending and hosting organization prepare all that is necessary for the EVS project and apply the project for financing to the National Agency, responsible for YOUTH IN ACTION PROGRAMME, at least four months before the start of activity. Deadlines for applications are: February 1, April 1, June 1, September 1 and November 1.
4. If the project is granted, the costs of free lodging, food and local travel costs related to the EVS project, obligatory insurance, pocket money and the travel expenses of the volunteer are therefore covered .

WHAT DO THE EVS VOLUNTEERS DO IN OUR ORGANISATION?
We try to integrate and include the volunteers into all those activities of the organizations, which interest them or which they want to learn by doing, and we actively encourage them to start and implement their own projects.
The main aim of the project is active participation of EVS volunteers in cultural activities of the hosting organization, which enables them to develop personally in many ways and also helps them to integrate into our community. They learn about the strategies and techniques of organizing cultural events and activities and develop skills and the responsibility within teamwork.
The volunteers actively cooperate in establishing programmes and executing events in the fields of art (film, music, multimedia, performance, scene techniques, radio…) and culture, youth-work, youth-information and informal education, civil society initiatives and other socially relevant actions. Through their work and living in this environment they obtain the feeling of belonging the organization, the new community as well as the local environment, gain intercultural experiences and develop a critical way of thinking about cultural and public matters.

The volunteers participate in all the activities of our Institution for the Support of Civil Society Initiatives and Multicultural Cooperation “PEKARNA – MAGDALENSKE MREŽE”, Youth Informative-Counseling Centre INFOPEKA and Student Radio MARŠ.
